Where Reading Meets Art: Jacob Campbell Honored in Springfield Library Bookmark Contest
Betsy Johnson

A love of reading doesn’t stop at the classroom door—it often finds new life through creativity and art. This year, Springfield High School junior Jacob Campbell brought those worlds together as one of 21 winners in the 45th annual Springfield Library Bookmark Contest.

The winners were recognized at a recent Springfield City Council meeting, celebrating both the longevity of the contest and the powerful connection between reading and imagination. Jacob’s artwork stood out for its whimsical, bright, and imaginative style—capturing the idea that reading is where knowledge, adventure, love, and creativity begin to grow.

In addition to Jacob’s individual recognition, Springfield High School received a giant commemorative bookmark that will be proudly displayed in the school library, along with individual bookmarks for students and staff to use and enjoy. These pieces will serve as daily reminders as we continue another semester focused on reading standards—and, just as importantly, Book Love.

Congratulations, Jacob! Thank you for sharing your talent with both our school and the broader community. Your work is a beautiful reminder that reading sparks creativity in countless forms—and that stories can inspire art that brings people together.
