SHS Students Help Bring Eugene Marathon History to Life

SHS Students Help Bring Eugene Marathon History to Life

The Springfield High School Wood Shop made a lasting mark on this year’s Eugene Marathon and Half Marathon by cutting 9,000 wooden medallions for race finishers. But these weren’t just any awards—they were crafted from the last remaining wood of the Historic Hayward Field East Grandstand, giving each medallion a piece of track and field history.

Once the medallions were cut, the SHS Track Team, along with several other student volunteers, stepped up to help assemble the awards—ensuring each one was ready to be proudly worn by runners crossing the finish line.

This meaningful project brought together craftsmanship, teamwork, and tradition—and it’s just one more example of how SHS students are making an impact beyond the classroom.
