SHS School Policies
Springfield High School's policies set clear expectations and connect to our SHARP values. These expectations and values create a foundation on which every SHS student can build a successful school career. Please take time to review the policies and talk with your student about how they plan to follow them.
At Springfield High School we are committed to addressing conflicts or disagreements in a restorative way, with relationships, needs, and impacts at heart. Staff will strive to work with students on an individual basis when policy requirements are not being met.
Electronic Devices Ban
In 2025, Governor Tina Kotek issued an Executive Order requiring all Oregon K12 public school districts to adopt policies banning student use of personal electronic devices during the school day. The order is designed to improve instructional time, academic achievement, school climate, and healthy student interactions.
Beginning September 2025, all Springfield Public Schools (SPS) students, including those at Springfield High School, must have their personal electronic devices turned off and put away from bell to bell, including during passing periods and lunch.
Devices Covered by the Ban
Personal devices prohibited under the Executive Order include, but are not limited to:
- Cell phones
- Smart watches
- Headphones/earbuds
- Smart glasses
- Tablets
- Any device that connects to the internet
Students with an IEP or 504 plan: Parents/guardians should contact Springfield High School for more information about allowable accommodations under this policy.
Parents/guardians who need to contact their student during the school day may do so by calling the Springfield High School Attendance Office at 541-744-4794 and requesting that an important message be delivered to the student’s classroom.
We encourage you to have conversations with your student/s about how they will store their electronic devices, including cell phones, during the school day. For more information, including the benefits of limiting personal electronic device use during class, please visit the District Electronic Devices Ban page.
What This Looks Like Under SHARP
At Springfield High School, we connect this policy to our schoolwide SHARP values:
Self-Aware: Recognize when you are tempted to use your phone and make responsible choices to keep it away.
Honest: Follow the rules without trying to hide device use. Trust is built when everyone upholds the policy.
Accountable: Take responsibility for your own device. Store it securely and accept consequences if expectations aren’t met.
Respectful: Show respect for teachers, classmates, and learning time by keeping devices off and away.
Persistent: Stay focused on your learning, even when it’s challenging, without turning to your phone for distraction.
Student Dress Expectations
The responsibility for the dress of a student rests primarily with the student and their parents or guardians. If you need resources or ideas, please let us know.

Staff will apply the dress code equitably and consistently. If conversations about dress code occur, they will be respectful and discreet. Staff will strive to work with students on an individual basis.
If dress is inconsistent with this policy, students will be given the option to:
- Change into something else they have with them.
- Call home and have something brought to them.
- Select loaner clothing from our resource center.
