Course provides an in-depth study of plane geometry with definitions, postulates, and theorems through proofs and applications. Topics include: segments, angles, triangles, quadrilaterals, similarity, congruence, Pythagorean Theorem, special right triangles, parallel and perpendicular lines and circles. Students also study perimeter, area, surface area, volume, and an introduction to right triangle trigonometry. Scientific calculators are required. Course is split into two semester courses; semester 1 is Geometry A and semester 2 is Geometry B. Geometry A is a prerequisite for Geometry B.

Algebra 1 is divided into two semesters. Algebra A is in the first semester. The focus of this course is on understanding patterns, solving equations and inequalities, and graphing linear functions. Algebra B is in the second semester and requires a passing grade in Algebra A and teacher recommendation. The Algebra B course provides an in-depth look at systems of equations, laws of exponents, factoring, quadratic functions, and polynomials. Scientific calculators are required.

This course is designed to increase students’ skills in the following areas: logarithmic, exponential, polynomial, rational, radical, and quadratic functions. As time allows, students study probability, matrices, and trigonometry. Graphing calculators are recommended. This is a dual credit course: Students can receive mathematics credit at SHS and Math 95 credit.

This course is designed as an honors course to prepare students for pre-calculus. Students study the same topics as in Algebra II but at a faster pace and more in-depth. This course also includes an in-depth study of trigonometry and integrates graphing calculators with the textbook throughout the course. This is a dual credit course. Credits are transferable to other colleges & universities.

Contemporary Math (MTH 105 and MTH 106) is a two course sequence but may be taken individually. MATH 105 is a survey of mathematical topics and applications of those topics for non-science majors including logic, probability, statistics and finance. This is a course designed for students who wish to earn a college math credit, but do not wish to take Pre-Calculus at this time. Together with MATH 106, it will often meet the college math graduation requirements for non-math/science majors. Scientific calculators are required and a graphing calculator is recommended. This is a dual credit course. Students can earn high school credit and up to 4 college credits through LCC for MTH 105. These credits are transferable to many other institutions.

Pre-Calculus is the study of basic functions and their applications (polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric functions, and their inverses). Other topics include, series/sequences, polar coordinates, polar form of complex numbers, vectors and conic sections. Course prepares students for the study of college-level calculus. This is a dual credit course: Students earn high school credit and up to 10 hours of LCC credit that is transferable to other colleges and universities.

Course covers a range of topics including: derivatives, integrals and their applications. There is a focus on the ability to be able to use tables, graphs and equations to solve problems. Course is a requirement for most science, engineering and business degrees. This is a dual credit course: Students can earn credit at SHS and up to 10 hours of LCC credit that is transferable to other colleges/universities.

More and more jobs in today's world require some level of data collection and analysis skills. IDS is a hands-on class for the study of Statistics and Probability that will help students prepare for these new job skills. The course will use real data for students to work with and analyze in a practical setting. Students will also learn some computer programming in the process of learning about Statistics and Probabilities. This course will fulfill one credit of Math at the Algebra 2 level.

Prerequisite: Math 105/106 or higher
Grade Level: 10, 11, 12
Course covers a range of topics including basic probability & statistics. There will be a focus on reading and problem solving using a variety of tests including: z-test, t-test, regression & comparison tests. Students should recognize well-designed experiments & surveys. They will use inference to explain results. This is a dual credit course.

Length and credit: Full year - 2 semesters/ 1 credit (.5 per semester)
Prerequisite: Case Manager recommendation
Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12
This course is a stand-alone course, but can be repeated as needed. This course must be recommended by Case Managers. This course is designed to help students to develop and improve their functional math skills, connecting math topics to real-world applications. Subjects covered will include the building blocks of fractions, length/height and kitchen measurement, money, and time.
