Curriculum Guide
The SHS Curriculum Guide helps students and families understand the academic opportunities available throughout Grades 9–12 at our high school. This online guide includes detailed course descriptions, graduation requirements, college- and career-readiness pathways, and information to support thoughtful course selection aligned to each student’s goals and interests.
Our programs offer challenging courses of study designed for students to prepare and ultimately reach their academic and career goals. Through a coordinated plan of courses, our students will be better prepared for post-high school experiences to continue their learning and education.

Language Arts
The English Department offers courses that reflect the diverse literary landscape of our country and our world. Through a curriculum that draws from a wide range of voices and traditions, students explore perspectives beyond their own, fostering empathy, critical thinking, and a lifelong appreciation for literature and writing.
Social Studies
Students examine the formation of the modern world through the lenses of history, politics, and geography. With this foundation, they turn to the major forces that have shaped the United States, including political liberalism, nationalism, industrialization, and imperialism. In 12th grade, students select from a range of electives based on teacher expertise and student interest.
Mathematics
Mathematics prepares students for collegiate-level work through mastery of fundamental concepts and problem-solving skills. Students build strong geometric, algebraic, and trigonometric foundations while learning to use technology for exploration and analysis. AP courses in Calculus and Statistics are available for students seeking additional challenge.
Science
Ninth graders begin with the physical sciences to develop essential skills for higher-level inquiry and communication. Beginning in 10th grade, students choose between traditional and accelerated pathways, leading to a wide range of advanced courses such as AP Biology, AP Environmental Science, AP Physics, AP Chemistry.
Physical Education
Physical Education (PE) classes build lifelong habits for health and wellness. PE moves beyond traditional team sports to offer specialized pathways like cardio-conditioning, strength training, dance, and stress management, empowering students to tailor their fitness to their personal lifestyles.
Health
Health classes in high schools are foundational for student well-being. They equip teens with essential life skills, including mental health management, nutrition, physical literacy, and substance abuse prevention. These courses typically fulfill core graduation requirements while fostering safe decision-making and overall personal growth.
World Languages
The World Languages Department inspires students to develop both language proficiency and cultural understanding in French, German and Spanish. Courses emphasize meaningful communication, cultural relevance, and global awareness, helping students recognize the value of multilingualism in their personal and professional futures.
Visual Arts
The visual arts build foundational 21st-century skills, teaching students creative problem-solving, visual literacy, and inventiveness. A strong curriculum guide empowers students to translate complex personal ideas into tangible media while gaining essential historical, cultural, and technical knowledge that supports well-rounded academic achievement.
Performing Arts
Exploratory and performance-based courses. Offerings include Instrumental Ensemble, Theatre, and Performing Arts Appreciation. All students are required to complete at least one semester of Performing Arts
CTE Courses
Career and Technical Education (CTE) embraces education, passion, and curiosity to fuel the future for Oregon students. CTE programs use 21st century technology to support students in acquiring technical skills, professional practices, customer service experience, and academic knowledge critical for career success in high-wage, in-demand careers.
Transition Services
A full range of special education services are available for students with an Individual Education Plan (IEP). These services include academic, behavioral, social, vocational, and life skills support that are dependent on students’ needs.
Leadership and Other Courses
Leadership courses in high school provide foundational life skills, significantly boosting students' emotional intelligence, problem-solving abilities, and resilience. These programs prepare teens for university and the workforce by teaching practical skills like communication, time management, and conflict resolution.
