Sad news

Dear SHS families,

I have some sad news to share with you today.  As you may be aware, over the weekend we learned that one of our 9th grade students, Christian Ripley, died from drowning in the Willamette River.  Christian was a friendly and athletic student who played on the SHS football team.  He was outgoing and he loved the outdoors. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Our hearts go out to Christian’s family and friends.

Students were made aware of this news this morning during their 1st period class. Today, we had extra counselors and staff available in the library for anyone who felt they would like more support.  These supports will remain in place throughout the week and as long as students need.

We do not yet know anything about a memorial service, but when we find out that information, we will be sure to share it with everyone.

Below are the links to resources that you may find helpful in helping your student grieve this loss as even if your student did not directly know Christian, we recognize this type of unexpected loss can trigger grief and sadness for all of us.

Saludo cordial,
